About Head Tareemo

Head Tareemo, also called Trimmu Barrage, is located on the Chenab River near the village Atharan Hazari in Jhang at the distance of 290 km from Lahore on Lahore - Islamabad M-2, turn on left from Pindi Bhattian interchange on Faisalabad - Multan Moterway M-4. Turn left for Jhang-Gojra Road and finally drive on Noorpur Thal-Shergarh Road to access the Head Treemmo.

There is a confluence of the River Jhelum and River Chenab before this barrage. The purpose of this barrage is to control the flow of water in the River Chenab for irrigation usage as well as control the flood to protect the Jhang city. It was built under the Indus Water Plan to build 7 link canals. Indus Water Treaty was signed between Pakistan and India to divide the waters of the rivers in this region. Pakistan has rights on the waters of Chenab, Jhelum, and Indus, whereas other rivers Ravi and Sutlej were given to India. Due to its confluence of the River Jhelum and River Chenab, it gives a splendid and magnificient view of the River Chenab.

Head Tareemo was completed in 1939 and its length is 3025 feet. There are 37 gate weir portions to control the flow of water from the barrage. There are three canals discharged from the Trimmu Barrage, Haveli Main Line, Trimmu Sidhnai Link Canal, and Rang Pur canal.

Visitors can enjoy boating in the Trareemo Barrage, which you enjoy the vastness and braodness of the River Chenab. One can also visit the confluence point of the River Jhelum and River Chenab through boat. It will be the remarkable visit through boat in the River Chenab, where you can see the merger of the Jhelum River into the Chenab River.

Another interest of this site is the fishing, tourist from various location of Punjab come here and enjoy fishing specially in winter season. You can see number of fishing rods along the both sides of the River Chenab. People also use boats for this purpose. You must need valid fishing permanent before doing it. If you do not have license, then it will available on the spot from the Trimmu Head. There are different kind of fish available in the barrage such as Sole, Rahu, etc.

One can also observe different kinds of birds along the bank of the River Chenab. For this purpose, you have to visit along the river bank at a distance. You can also see bird praying fish in the river.
