Hunza Peak

Hunza Peak is located in Karakoram Range on the right side of Ladyfinger Peak, on the southwest ridge of the Ultar Sar massif in Batura Muztagh. It stands at an altitude of 20,570 feet above sea level. Hunza Peak along with Ladyfinger Peak can be seen from Altit Fort with a beautiful landscape of Hunza Valley.

Hunza Peak First Summit

Hunza Peak was successfully climbed in 1991. It requires serious alpine skills to cross the steep rock and ice lines from its South Face. For climbing purpose, you must require a dedicated and expert high-altitude mountain guide and an official climbing permits from the Gilgit-Baltistan tourism board or Alpine Club of Pakistan.

Start of Ultar Sar Trek

Hunza Peak trek starts behind the historic Baltit Fort in Karimabad. It takes four to five hours to get the Base Camp plateau of Ultar Sar. Trek leads toward the steep, narrow gorge that cuts the Ultar glacial stream with the mountain walls. The trek moves along the local irrigation channels over the slops and enters into the sharp Ultar gorge. Now you have to cross the active rocky moraines and loose shale slopes. You must need a local mountain guide to avoid potential rockfall hazards.

Ultar Sar Meadows

After the extreme efforts, trek emerges from the narrow canyon into a wide alpine pasture, the base camp of the Ultar Sar. One can see the grazing animals in summer seasons. Camping must be perform here, if your are real climber and mountaineer and wants to capture the Hunza Peak summit. Ultar Sar meadows gives the wider view of the vertical granite walls of Hunza Peak and Ladyfinger touching the sky above your head. It requires highly technical skills to climb over the granite face and also avoiding the rockfall.

From the Eagle's Nest in Duikar, you will get the clear view of the Hunza Peak. The best time to get the beautiful view of the Hunza Peak and Ladyfinger peak is in the morning to get shining view at sunrise time, or time just before sunset.

The sharp peak on the left side of the Hunza Peak is the Ladyfinger Peak. Ladyfinger, also known as Bublimating Peak, is a distinctive rock spire and snowless peak at an elevation of 20,000 feet.
