Rakaposhi

Rakaposhi, also known as Dumani, is situated in the Karakoram Range and is located in the center of Nagar Valley. It is the 12th highest peak in Pakistan at an elevation of 25,551 feet and one of the world's most beautiful peaks. It gives an exceptional view from the Hunza valley on the Karakorum Highway.

Rakaposhi Viewpoint on KKH

Rakaposhi is clearly visible from Karakoram Highway. From the Ghulmat town in the Nagar Valley, the Rakaposhi viewpoint just over the KKH to get have superb scenic view of the Rakaposhi peak. Even you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea on the roadside café, looking at the face of Rakaposhi in front of you. You don't even need to have single step to get its beautiful and splendid peak. It is best place for families, photographers, and safari travelers.

Rakaposhi Base Camp

Rakaposhi base camp is place for adventure lovers and trekkers. Minapin is a small town from where base camp trek is started. Rakaposhi base camp is also known as Tagafari and is situated on an elevation of 3.500 meters. The trekking difficult is moderate and it takes 4 to 6 hours complete. Trekkers pass through the alpine meadows and highly sloped passages. The trail slopes steadily through dusty canyon passage for 3 hours to reach into the lush green meadows, known as Hapakun, at an elevation of 2,800 feet. It is a perfect place for camping or short break before moving next part of the trail. Finally, trek leads you on a massive glacier edge for your destination of Rakaposhi base camp. The wide grassy pastures of Tagafari at an elevation of 3,500 feet, where you can camp directly underneath the sheer towering white icy wall of Rakaposhi, stretching toward Minapin Glacier.

Diran Ridge Trek

Another main adventure over the Rakaposhi is the Diran Ridge trek. It is more challenging as compare to Rakaposhi Base Camp trek. Trek starts from Hapakun toward the massive icy ridges of Diran Peak at an elevation of 7,266 feet. Trekkers need to climb the rocky structures and sharp vertical paths. On the Diran Ridge, one will get the closer view of both Rakaposhi and Diran Peak side by side

Wildlife at Rakaposhi

Rakaposhi is also considered as a home for wildlife. Several endangered species such as snow leopard, brown bear, and Marco Polo sheep are found there.

About Nagar

Nagar district is located next to the Gilgit district in Gilgit Baltistan at an altitude of 8,822 feet on the Karakoram Highway. It was part of the Nagar-Hunza district, it is constituted as a separate district in July 2015. Nagar Khas is the major town and administrative headquarter of the Nagar district.
