Kohala

Kohala is the located on the River Jhelum as a gateway to Jammu and Kashmir by crossing well-known Kohala Bridge. It is located between Murree in Punjab and Muzaffarabad and Bagh in Kashmir.

It is old name was Patan, that was changed by Sir James Abbott, the first commissioner of Hazara, in 1863. It was remained under the control of Murree from 1873 to 1993 under a lease agreement.

It has historical significance as an important center of Hindu and Buddhist. Hindu pilgrimage worshipped Kohala Devi in this area, whereas it was an important route from Taxila to Sharda for Buddhist monks. During the Dogra dynasty under Gulab Singh, it remained as important business center for Hindu merchants.

About Muzaffarabad

Muzaffarabad, located on the confluence of Jhelum River and Neelum River, is the capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan. The splendid view of the confluence of the Jhelum and Neelum rivers at Domel attracts a number of visitors to enjoy the riversides. Its name was given due to Sultan Muzaffar Khan, leader of the Bomba tribe, who ruled Kashmir in 1646.
