Manthokha Waterfall

Manthokha Waterfall is located in Kharmang Valley in Madupur village in Gilgit-Baltistan at a distance of 40 km from Skardu city. It is one of the highest waterfalls in Pakistan, with a height of 180 feet on the vertical granite cliff face on an elevation of 7,648 feet.

How to Access Manthokha Waterfall

From Skardu main town, it takes 2.5 hours on the wide and winding paved road along the Indus River eastward into Kharmang District via Kargil Highway link. Trek is easily accessible for all type of vehicles without any difficulty. Turn right on the Skardu-Khaplu Road from the Kargil-Skardu Road to access the Madhupur village. On the passage, travelers can explore local Balti villages and fruit orchards before crossing the river bridge near Madhupur village. From where, a narrow road leads along the side stream toward the mountain basin to access the Manthokha waterfall. After parking your vehicle at parking space, you have to walk on the paved trek and cross small wooden bridges over the stream to access the front face of the waterfall.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit the waterfall is from June to July when water flows at its peak due to melting of glaciers at maximum level. For best photography, it is recommended to visit in early morning or before sunset with magical light effects.

Trout Fishing & Dining near Waterfall

Manthokha waterfall is a beautiful waterfall and famous for camping and trout fishing. Tourists can enjoy on-site trout dining with fresh air with droplets splitting from the waterfall. You can also select the fresh trout from the breeding ponds near the lake. There is small pond in front of the waterfall where visitors can enjoy the cold and fresh water.

Near the waterfall, visitors can also explore the manicured grass lawns, small wooden bridges over the streams, and beautifully decorated rest areas. It is an ideal spot for family picnic and dining in natural environment. There are several small local stalls where you can buy tea, snacks, and other eatables. Some shops are also available there where you can purchase local handicrafts.
