Danyor

Danyor is a tehsil in Gilgit District in Gilgit-Baltistan and located on elevation of 6,600 feet at the distance of 9 km from Gilgit City via the Nomal Road. It is also accessible via Karakoram Highway at an distance of 19 km on the opposite side of the Gilgit River.

Confluence of Gilgit River and Hunza River

Danyor is also a point of confluence of the Hunza River and the Gilgit River. The Gilgit River mixing with the Hunza River by creating too much noise. Its water splitting over the large size stones and its splashes covering the long distance toward its banks. Whereas the Hunza River calmly becomes the part of the Gilgit River. The dramatic confluence of both these rivers is not only the viewpoint, it pulls out the soul from body and makes the visitor indulged in a deep panic situation where they are unable to maintain their senses. So, whenever you traveling toward Khunjerab Pass, try to stop for few minutes to view the tremendous confluence of these rivers.

Danyor Nallah Tributary of Hunza River

Danyor Nallah is the main water stream crossing through the Danyor and is also one of the major tributary of the Hunza River. While moving toward Hunza, one has to cross the bridge over the Danyor Nallah to continue journey toward Hunza and Khunjerab Pass.

Danyor Suspension Bridge & Tunnel

The Danyor Suspension Bridge is a famous tourist attraction as a wonder in Danyor. It was constructed over a half-century ago to cross the Hunza River and known as one of the oldest suspension bridges in the Gilgit-Baltistan region. The opposite side of bridge connects with a single-lane locally constructed tunnel. It connects Karakoram International University to the Gilgit city. Bridge is now only in use for pedestrian and motor-bikes due to its old infrastructure.

7th Century Inscription in Sanskrit

Gilgit is also rich in the historical perspective of the Buddhism and Hinduism. In Donyor, a massive black rock shows the 7th century inscription in Sanskrit language.

From Gilgit, it would be short-cut to access Hunza by using concreate Danyor Tunnel. In this way, you can reduce the distance and time as compare to distance and travel time via KKH. It also avoid the congested traffic through the city bazaars.

After exploring the old suspension bridge and historical inscription on rock, get the main KKH heading toward a scenic two-hour drive into the breathtaking Hunza Valley.

Gilgit is a splendid place for tourists, situated at the altitude of 4800 feet in the southwest of Karakorum Range in the Gilgit-Baltistan Province near the confluence of the Gilgit River and Hunza River. It is the capital of the Gilgit-Baltistan province, which is an administrative territory of Pakistan.
