Passu Cathedral
Passu Cathedral, also known as Passu Cones or Tupopdon, is located in Passu village at an elevation of 20,033 feet. It is the most beautiful picturesque peak in Gilgit-Baltistan. It is worth to have a short stay here to indulge in the spell-bound beauty of this town in the high-altitude mountains before moving toward the Khunjerab Pass.
Passu Cones
Passu Cones is the main attraction of the Passu village. It is group of several sharp-edged jagged granite spires and collectively called as Passu Cones. It stands at an elevation of 20,033 feet in the north of the Passu village just near the KKH. Every tourist can enjoy the splendid viewpoints of Passu Cones just near the Karakoram highway. Due to its beauty and ease of access, every visitor get its picture and selfies. Several professional photographers spend whole day to get best view of the different part of the day. Every moment of day gives different intensity of light, so photo has its own beauty. At the time of sunrise and sunset, it gives the most charming of stunning golden light on its peaks.
Best Photography Time in Passu
The best photography time to get perfect image of Passu Cones is in the morning after sunrise or in the evening before sunset. A perfect shot can be taken from the middle of the road by using a telephoto lens of 70 to 200mm. Another good moment to take a splendid image with reflection is from bank of Hunza River near the Passu Bridge at afternoon. Here, the Hunza River's turquoise water moves in a slow-moving channel. One can capture a sharp reflection of the Passu Cathedral's jagged peaks.
On the Borith Lake Trek
If you are on the trek of Brorith Lake, then when you have hiked on the high moraine ridges behind Borith Lake. This will give you a wider look of the Passu Cones on the top of the middle spires. Another fantastic view of the Passu Cones is while going toward the Sost. As you pass the Passu Cathedral, stop a while and look behind. Here, you will get a reverse angle of the Passu Cones with a sharp spires clustering tightly as part of the single crown.
Near the Passu Cones, the highest mountain in the Passu village is Passu Sar at an elevation of 24,534 feet, instead of extra height, it can never compete Passu Cones in its popularity.
