Satpara Lake

Satpara Lake is one of the largest fresh water and natural lake located in Skardu at a distance of 8 km from the Skardu main town. A jeep can be hired from Skardu or you can enjoy the trek on foot. You can also enjoy trout fishing and boating there.

Accessing Satpara Lake

From Skardu main bazaar, a paved road for all type of vehicle leads toward the Satpara Lake. It takes nearly 20 to 25 minutes to reach there from picturesque riverside views. The road quickly transition into an asphalt drive climbing toward the deep mountain canyons. It is the most charming lake at an elevation of 8,650 feet, and attracts several tourists every year. In the center of lake, there is a picturesque island that gives a splendid view of aqua greenish lake water. Boat can be used to access it and a short stay is possible with a boat roundtrip.

Boating in Satpara Lake

The most exciting adventure in the lake is boating that is available on the lake side. The charges of boat is Rs.500 per person for 15 to 20 minutes ride around the central island and near the local dam on the lake. The dam is constructed on the downstream to supply fresh water and electricity to Skardu city.

Trout Dining near Lakeside

Another most favorite activity is the fishing on the lakeside. It is your luck to get fish in the fork, but trout dining is available on small restaurants near the lakeside. You can enjoy the outdoor dining near the banks of lake with the panoramic views of high mountains behind the lake.

Accessing Deosai National Park

From the Satpara Lake, the same trek leads toward Deosai plains, which is the highest plateau in the Karakorum Range. You can park at the lakeside to enjoy wonderful tea or a boat trip before to continue the next steeper part of the journey toward Deosai Plains. From here, you need 4x4 vehicle or hire jeep to cross the Ali Malik Mar Pass gateway to enter Deosani National Park.
