Shogran

Shogran is located in the Kaghan Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and is one of the famous visiting spots in the valley. This lush green hill station is situated in the midst of green dense pine forest at a height of 7,749 feet above sea level, at the distance of 34 km from Balakot, and 90 km from Abbottabad.

How to access Shogran

Shogran is easily accessible by any type of vehicle, turns right after Kewai from main Kaghan Road toward this hill station. The curly road passing and turning through the pine forest gives superb experience of journey. One can easily drive own vehicle without any difficulty. After 7 km of mountainous drive, you will be in a wonderful valley of lush green pine trees with a cool and pleasant atmosphere.

Shogran is famous for family trip and considered best family resort in Kaghan valley. In season, hotel must be booked before planning to visit Shogran with family, whereas in off-season, there is no issue of hotel booking. Rooms are available at affordable prices in every season.

Extend Trip to access Siri-Paye

From Shogran, you can further plan your tour to visit other places such as Siri-Paye meadows, and Makra Peak trek. You can also get a view of Makra Peak and Musa-Ka-Masalla peaks from the Shogran in clear weather. A trip to Forest Rest House will be a wonderful trip there also. Most of the times, the Shogran plateau is covered with heavy clouds, which will attract most the tourist passing over the Kaghan Road.

To visit Siri-Paye meadows, you can hire 4x4 jeep from Shogran. Jeep trek is only available to Siri, whereas to visit Paye meadows horses are available. From Paye meadows, one can perform Makra Peak trek hiking. Horse riding option is also available, but real adventure is the hiking to get the charming view of Makra peak.

Best Season to Visit Shogran

Summer is the best time to visit the Shogran, but heavy rain and sometimes with hail storm can be expected in monsoon period. In winter due to heavy snow, it will be difficult to access the area, but it can be an unforgettable adventure visit in winter season when pines are covered with a white layer of snow. One can also enjoy live snowfall there, but it depends upon luck. It would better get proper information about the area before visiting as an unexpected change of weather is always there.

For Shogran trip using own vehicle, you must refuel your vehicle and purchase your snacks from Balakot, as it would be difficult get fuel as you turn right toward Shogran.

About Balakot

Balakot is the most important town in the Mansehra district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and is located on the right bank of the Kunhar River. The Kunhar River flows in a very clam channel after crossing Balakot instead of narrow and sharp gorges in the Kaghan Valley.
