Gilgit is a splendid place for tourists, situated at the altitude of 4800 feet in the southwest of Karakorum Range in the Gilgit-Baltistan Province near the confluence of the Gilgit River and Hunza River. It is the capital of the Gilgit-Baltistan province, which is an administrative territory of Pakistan.
The Yasin valley was still under the shadows of the dusk at the morning, uncovering itself from the fold of dark night with shining stars all over the sky. Still some stars were struggling to stay on the face of sky, but morning sunlight rays finally made them vanish for a new bright and sunny day. Long maple trees were now visible and looked like dancing with the rhythm of cool breeze coming down from the snow-capped mountain surrounded the valley. I was feeling fresh air in my lungs that was providing clean non-toxin oxygen flow throughout my blood. It gave a unique calmness and relaxation to my nerves that had never experience in Lahore where one had to work in high tension along with heavy noise and pollution.
The journey began in the heart of Punjab—Lahore on 24th June 2023. It was early morning, and the city was still shaking off its slumber. The streets, usually buzzing with life, were eerily quiet as I loaded my bags into the car. The plan was to embark on a road trip to Khunjerab Pass, the highest paved border crossing in the world, standing at a breathtaking 4,693 meters above sea level.
There are many beautiful valleys in the Northern Areas, where people love to spend their holidays due to the pleasant and healthy weather. Gilgit-Baltistan, also known as Northern Areas, has diversified cultures, tribes, sects, and peoples. There are more than 50 different languages and dialects spoken in the various valleys of the Northern Areas. Most of the languages in Gilgit Baltistan are only spoken by specific people in the limited geographical area of the Northern Areas. Local people treat you with more hospitality and love if someone can speak the local language. Here I want to introduce the main languages spoken in Gilgit-Baltistan.
