Being a part of the sub-continent, many governments ruled over Lahore before the independence of Pakistan, including Sikh, Mughal, and British. Numerous places were built during the Mughal era and are preserved in the same manner to date. Historical sites those are pretty significant and most visited include the following.

Minar-e-Pakistan

It is also known at the Tower of Pakistan and possess immense historical importance that relates to the history of the independence and establishment of Pakistan. It is located in the Minto Park ground, where the Lahore resolution was passed in 1940 by Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The minar was built approximately in eight years from 1960 to 1968 in memory of the declaration made by Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Badshahi Mosque

The next most famous historical place is Badshahi Mosque located beside Lahore Fort. The Badshahi Mosque is ancient, traditional, and a living example of creative and fantastic architecture. Badshahi mosque is also known to be one of the largest mosques in Asia. The food street behind the Badshahi mosque is the most famous place for food in Lahore and people especially visit that street to satisfy their food cravings and to try the delicious desi and local food.

Lahore Fort

The Lahore Fort is one the remarkable historical building and located in front of the Badshahi Mosque. It is was built by the Mughal Emperor, Akbar, for defense purposes. The Lahore Fort holds so much significance in terms of its tradition, which depicts the Mughals and their way of living. It also comprises additional features that have made the building more precious and worthy such as the Sheesh Mahal and Museum holding artifacts related to the Mughal, Sikh, and British eras.

Masjid Wazir Khan

Masjid Wazir Khan is also another beautiful historical building in the Walled City of Lahore. It was built during the Mughal tenure in 1635 to 1635 by Wazir Khan who was the minister of Shah Jahan, the Mughal Emperor. It can be accessed easily through the Delhi Gate on the Circular Road.

Lahore Museum

Lahore Museum is located on the Mall Road in Lahore and was established in 1894 during the British Rule. The architecture and structure of the building was designed by Sir Ganga Ram. It comprises many beautiful items from heritage and history like jewelry, weapons, and several precious old items. It is the largest museum in Pakistan and considered an important place to learn about the history of Pakistan and sub-continent.

Shalimar Garden

The Shalimar Garden is no doubt among the masterpieces of the Mughal construction in the sub-continent. It is situated near Baghpanpura on G. T. Road. It has three levels of garden with beautiful and remarkable set of fountains in all over the garden. It attracts domestic people as well as foreigners because of its eye-catching beauty and attraction.

There are still many other places besides the ones mentioned above, like the Anarkali Tomb, Hazuri Bagh, Noor Jahan Tomb, Jahnagir Tomb, etc. All of these places hold immense importance from a historical point of view and truly define and depict the tradition and culture of Lahore.
